Medusa
Medusa from Greek mythology One of the Gorgons, the only mortal one. She had a ghastly face that turned anyone who looked at it to stone, a dragon body and snakes for hair. Her parent's were Phorcys and Ceto, and she lived by the western ocean with her immortal sisters Stheno and Euryale. She was killed by Perseus, and from her blood and Poseidon's semen the horse Pegasus was born. The head of the Gorgon was often used in Art. It was pictured on the aegis of Athena, since Perseus had offered it to the goddess after his feat, and people would have it as door knockers to protect the house from evil and it was also painted or sculptured inside cups. According to another story Medusa was originally a lovely maid who was the daughter of Echidne, who was half woman, half snake, and Typhon, the worst monster in the world. Poseidon fell in love with her, and seduced her in the temple of Athena. Because this was sacrilege, the goddess Athena wanted revenge. She could not punish Poseidon since he was a greater god, so all the blame fell on Medusa, who turned into a monster.

The First Snow
I was preparing this drawing for a long time and I could never manage to finish it. It's a winter scene of a family squirrel, in which the father squirrel goes to kindle the lantern outside their house and the little squirrel calls him because the meal is ready. It's the first snow of the winter and all the animals of the forest search a warm place. The only sound outside is the sound of the snow.

"Kallikantzaros"
When I was a little child, my grandmother used to tell me stories about some creatures that appear in our world from time to time. The legends and the beliefs of every place always have a dark and mysterious tale to narrate. The curiosity for every eerie thing made me feel that I craved for such stories, even though, to be honest, I was afraid of them :D . In Greece there are certain beliefs about some creatures that appear in our world on Christmas day and live among us for the next twelve days. These creatures are called Kallikantzaroi(goblins). It is said that at the rest of the year the Kallikantzaroi live under the surface of the earth and try to cut the big tree that holds it, in order to fall down. With axes made of wood and stone the Kallikantzaroi hew the tree that holds the earth, but before they cut it, Christmas arrive and they forget their task so they ascend on the earth, in order to peeve the humans and do various mischievous things by sneaking in their houses through the chimneys. The Kallikantzaroi are creatures of the night and during the day they hide from the sun, because they fear it. When the twelfth day arrives, January 6th(Epiphany), the Kallikantzaroi return to their subterranean location, but in the meantime the tree has become the way it was before, so they have to cut it again from the start.

Xmas Tree
The tradition of the Christmas tree is very old and symbolizes something different from place to place. But nobody really knows the true story of the Christmas tree and why people adorn it every year during Christmas. One night, long,long time ago, Santa had gone out to share presents to the children like every Christmas. While he was trying to come out of a chimney, he stuck and on his try to unstuck himself he was thrown out with force, rolled through the roof and fell in the storehouse, breaking some bottles of wine that the owners were keeping especially for Christmas. The wine fell all over the Santa and of course he tasted it. It was so sweet that made him try more from the untouched bottles of the storehouse. So, the more he drank, the more he wanted, but he should continue his job too. There were many children that still waited their presents. He took some bottles with him and got on the sleigh, where his assistant, an elf, was waiting him. Santa was laughing and singing because of the wine he had drunk and the sleigh was making maneuvers on the air during the flight. Suddenly, the sleigh passed through a hill on a low height and hit a tree. Many presents, sweets and toys were thrown from the sleigh and hooked on the tree or fell under it. The magic dust made it shine. The dawn a peasant went to the hill to cut some woods for the fireplace and saw it dazzled. The tree was so beautiful that he called all the other peasants to see it. So, every year people adorn a tree waiting to find presents under it.
